At Drakart Workshop, we care about the materials we use and the impact our work has. As a small business based in Johnstone, Scotland, we do our best to work responsibly, reduce waste, and support local suppliers wherever we can.
We’re proud to source many of our materials from suppliers here in Scotland.
Using local materials not only helps minimise our environmental footprint but also keeps our work rooted in the character and craftsmanship of Scotland.
We work with wood, slate, acrylic, stainless steel, and resin, selecting materials that are durable and long-lasting. Our aim is to create pieces that will be treasured for years, not thrown away after a season.
Laser cutting naturally creates offcuts, and we make a conscious effort to reuse or repurpose these wherever possible — for smaller products, test pieces, or future projects. Anything we can’t reuse is recycled where facilities allow.
Most of our items are made to order or produced in small batches. This helps us avoid unnecessary stock, reduce waste, and ensure that every piece is made with purpose.
We aim to use recyclable or reusable packaging materials and avoid unnecessary plastics. As we grow, we continue to look for better, more sustainable packaging options.
We’re not a large manufacturer, but we believe small steps make a difference. We’re committed to improving our practices over time — whether that’s sourcing more materials locally, reducing waste further, or finding new ways to make our workshop more sustainable.
